Banana Spice Muffin

Category Two Stars, Breakfast

Banana Spice Muffin They say: Puré bananas and fresh cinnamon give this wheat bran muffin a flavor you'll love.

I say: I grudgingly admit this is better than the Lemon Poppyseed Muffin but that doesn't mean much. It has the same chalky aftertaste though the banana spice is easier to swallow than the lemon flavor.

Plain straight out of the package -- they are very dry. U*gh!

But, now I love them!!! I either: toast them and then spray with ICBINB; or I break them up in a bowl with half a banana (my b-fast fruit) then top with sugar free maple syrup and microwave for 40 seconds. Boy, do I love them like this!!

I didn't like them straight out of the package, but toasted they were o.k. They are probably the better choice of the muffins available.

Not a gourmet bakery item, but much better than no muffins at all. I'm a muffin addict, and this is the first truly low calorie/high fiber/high protein muffin substitute I've found ANYWHERE. So I'll probably continue to order these after reaching goal, just so I can have my muffins a couple times a week. Warming up and ICBINB help a lot.

I used to love these too! In fact I miss them and may have to order some! They are also really good if you cut them in half and spray them with a little butter flavor cooking spray and toast then in a skillet. Then I spray them with a little butter spray and sprinkle them with a little bit of ground up splenda (I use a mortor and pestle). They come out tasting just like a bannana french toast! I also do this when I make regular french toast! It really is wonderful!! Christina

I have to agree with others here, that out of the bag not so great but toasted with ICBINB spray, they are pretty tasty!

Ick, Ick, Ick. Tried spraying them with ICBINB and that didn't help at all.

01.06.05 | janiewanie commented:

They are ok, but I'd rather have a cereal.

These are so-so. Not bad flavor but the texture is dry. I like crunch tops, like on english muffins, so I slice these and put them under the broiler until lightly brown. Then top with Promise Ultra (fat free/cholesterol free butter).

all ns muffins are dry and horrible tasting. i won't be ordering any until they are improved...

I absolutely love them! I heat them in the microwave for 20 seconds and have 8 oz of milk and some sort of fruit! HEAVENLY! YUMMY! I can't wait for my next shipment... I ordered many more this time.

I had them this morning -heated in the microwave with some fat free cream cheese spread on. Great! I think they have a quality control problem with the muffins sometimes though - it seems to vary. I got a pack of blueberry that we're just horrible - like the baking soda had all got stuck in one place or something, usually I like those. And once, my banana muffins were burned badly on the bottom. I've also gotten crushed and torn muffins - probably happened in shipping. Normally though I like both the blueberry and the banana.

I like these, too. They're not like the real thing, of course, but they could be MUCH worse! They are better when warmed. I'll have to try some of these other suggestions...they sound good!

Guess I made the mistake of trying right from the package because mine was stale in texture. I didn't reorder but I guess I will now, and fix em up a little!!

I didn't mind these.... of all the muffins, they were my favorites.

01.06.05 | ActiveGranny commented:

I like them. Pop them in the microwave for a few second to warm up and eat as is, nothing further needed.

This one is not for me!!!!!

i love to slice these in half. Warm them. Add 1/2 sliced banana top top of each piece. Makes for a nice breakfast.

These muffins are my favorite breakfast. I admit the first time I ate it, I threw most of it out. But after reading the boards and learning helpful preparation hints they are wonderful.

01.06.05 | Crackle26 commented:

i have heard a lot of complaints, but i like them. i warm them in the microwave, spray them w/ icbinb, and enjoy w/ a glass of milk. i use more than 5 squirts of spray though. this might be why i like them so much.

Could not swallow them. In fact, the dogs would not eat them. Sorry.

01.13.05 | Marilyn commented:

Crumble them in a bowl, slice 1/2 banana on top, and add 2T sugar free maple syrup. Microwave 1 minute and stir well. So yummy, it's my favorite breakfast.

01.13.05 | Beth commented:

Better than the lemon muffins but not fabulous. Nuking them in a damp paper towel seems to help the dryness.

01.24.05 | Shannon commented:

I also tried them heated up with ICBINB spray and added banana slices (open faced). I then topped them off with a small dollop of ff whipped cream. They were yummy!

The best of the muffins! These I could actually stand to eat right out of the package - no need for anything on them! Yes, the texture is a little off, but at least they don't make me want to cry like the Lemon Poppyseed and Blueberry do.

My order only just came this afternoon, I had to try something, and I chose these muffins (I suppose they were considered one of my meals for the free week), and the smell isn't bad in the package. When I tasted them they were not as horrible as I expected based on the reviews, but then again I'm not hard to please, very dry must have with beverage. I'd give them a 2 out of 5 stars.

12.18.05 | Denny commented:

The muffins are all that exciting. NS needs to go back to the drawing board.

01.31.06 | KIM commented:

I think 5 stars in flavor. 2 stars in texture. Try ff I Can't Believe It's Not Butter. It helps them go down much better.

well, after tossing my first ns muffins (poppyseed) i followed the advise of this site and tried heating them for my second try w/ banana. these came out a BIT less than hockey puck material, but it was the tsp. on each half of 2% cottage cheese (my b-fast dairy) i spread on them that helped them go down. overall...thumbs down to the muffins.

06.09.06 | Anna commented:

They are the best of the three muffins. (I was very sad after trying my lemon poppyseed) Definitly have a mealy flavor and texture.

I like to experiment with my Nutrisystem food, so I have found a couple of ways to eat them that turned out pretty good. My favorite is I cook an egg sunny side up, cut my muffin in half, spray no fat no nothin butter flavored cooking spray on it and heat it in the pan. Top muffin with egg, a little fat free cheese, and the other half of the muffin. Delish!

07.12.06 | Tammy commented:

These are better than the Lemon Poppyseed muffins, but they are very dry and have a "chemical" aftertaste. Next time I will try them with ICBINB spray as suggested here.

07.20.06 | DJ commented:

uggh, Not happy with these muffins, but it was my 1st thing to try with the nutrisystem.

08.10.06 | Christy commented:

It tasted like a chemical plant in my mouth. It was the most disguisting thing I have ever tasted and the first NS item I tried (maybe the last...)

08.19.06 | msg0927 commented:

This was great. A welcome surprise.

08.23.06 | Sheryl commented:

OMG, this is the worst thing I have ever eaten in my entire life. I love bananas and I love muffins and I love banana muffins ... this was so terrible that I couldn't even swallow it. I would highly recommend this if you want something to kill your appetite. If you appreciate breakfast then most definitely order something else. You're better off eating a real banana that has 120 calories and 0.5 grams of fat.

10.03.06 | Nan commented:

I like the banana flavor and the muffins do fill you up.
