Oatmeal

Category Three Stars, Breakfast

Oatmeal They say: Enjoy this hearty classic and know you're having a breakfast that will keep you going the whole morning.

I say: I'm still trying to figure out what that yellow thing in the picture is. A lemon? Can't be a banana based on the shape. A peach slice? In any event as far as plain oatmeal goes, this was fine. I didn't spice it up with sugar or cinnamon or fruit. I mixed it with 1/2 water 1/2 soy milk.

This breakfast is great with cinnamon and splenda.

I often mix cinnamon (I've been reading alot about cinnamon stepping up a person's metabolism, plus it helps to balance blood sugar.) I also add 1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce (fruit serving) and a carton of vanilla yogurt (protien/dairy) and the bowl is huge! Tons of food, great flavor, and it "sticks to your ribs" as my dad would say. Great on cold mornings, but I don't eat it alot in the summer.

Looks like a peach slice to me.

I think the oatmeal is good, if you're an oatmeal eater. My grandma used to make it every Saturday morning. We would top it with heavy cream and brown sugar....not exactly NS style! But it is a great comfort food.

Dress it up a bit with some cinnamon and chopped walnuts - yummy!

You can always add Brown Sugar Twin which is the sugar-free brown sugar. It is more granulated than regular brown sugar, but I've found it to be a good substitute.

Other than the fact that it explodes in the microwave, it's good and filling.

I like this with some splenda and cinnamon, but I want to try Mudium's idea and mix it with applesauce and yogurt next time. Yummy!

I really liked this & I thought I wouldn't. I added some cinnamon, Splenda & the 1/2 cup of FF milk to cool it off some. It tasted really good. I wish I'd ordered more than just the one packet.

YUMMY! Just don't cook it 4-6 minutes like the package said... 2 minutes in my microwave does the job... ortherwise... SPLAT! EXPLOSION in the micro! Insane in the membrane!!!!

02.24.05 | margaret commented:

the package says 4-6 min on medium power. are you using high power, like i did once? yep, explosion. now i nuke it on med for 4 minutes. perfect!

We like the oatmeal. I think it's sweet enough without sugar. It's good to add a few raisins to. Just like I used to make my kids when they were small.

Unless you add splenda and cinnamon, this will taste like the paste currently being eaten by my 4 year old niece.

Love the ns oatmeal...why in heck are we all having the nuke explosions and losing half our breakfast in the microwave? I think it says on the pkge. to put it in a deep bowl but at work all I had was a small bowl and what a mess.
