Pasta Fagioli
They say: With vegetarian sausage and fresh tomatoes, this pasta dish is a great tasting way to get the protein you need and all the flavor you deserve.
I say: This is a new meal, released in Fall 2004. I'm game for anything pasta and this didn't disappoint. Lots of veggies and beans. I didn't even realize it was a vegetarian meal. The flavorful seasoning on the sausage chunks fooled my taste buds.

They say: Vegetarian Italian sausage, mushrooms and enriched rice make our risotto a great tasting, healthy dinner.
I say: I have no idea what Risotto is, but when I first opened it I thought it looked mushy with a slight aroma of curry. However I love mushrooms so I found it tasty. It is a bit on the peppery side so have a glass of water nearby.
Flame Broiled Beef Patty with Cheese
The say: Enjoy all the flavor of a classic cheeseburger, including skim mozzarella cheese that you can serve on a healthy whole grain or whole wheat roll.
I say: WOW! This was AMAZING! My first taste of the Flame Broiled Beef Patty was a disappointment. But it was my bad. I didn't follow the directions. Not today. The cheese looked like it came from the Thin Crust Pizza with Cheese. It was shredded, and not sliced as the picture implies. Not that it mattered. The taste & smell speak for themselves.
Cheese Ravioli with Basil Tomato Sauce
They say: A rich tomato sauce plus a special blend of mozzarella, ricotta, and Italian cheeses makes this classic irresistible.
I say: Given that this meal is a kissin' cousin to Cheese and Spinach Ravioli with Meat Sauce I gave it 5 stars before my first bite. Just as tasty, although my unsophisticated taste buds couldn't detect the basil.
Burgundy Sauce and Beef with Rice
They say: You can't help but love our beef strips, mushrooms, wild rice and red bell peppers served in a rich burgundy sauce.
I say: It's been a few months since I've had a beef entrée. I've been sticking to the pasta dishes. When I opened it to vent the smell brought back memories. Why on earth do the beef gravy’s have such thick odors? As usual it tasted much better than it smelled. I don't remember seeing mushrooms, but I did spot a carrot or two.
BBQ Sauce with White Chicken Fillet
They say: Enjoy this fillet of real, white meat chicken and tangy barbecue sauce that you can serve on a healthy whole grain or whole wheat roll.
I say: I haven't tried it yet.
Holiday Turkey Breast with Gravy and Diced Potatoes
They say: Six slices of turkey and freshly diced potatoes make this meal a classic you'll love all year.
I say: Pffft! How can a holiday classic be so bad? The one saving grace, surprisingly, was the potatoes, but the gooey sauce combined with the weird hunk of turkey meat simply wasn't worth it. At all.
Chili with Beans
They say: A mildly seasoned, homestyle-flavored chili with beef and beans.
I say: LOVED LOVED LOVED this. Don't let the small container fool you. It is packed with beans and beef and an extremely tasty sauce. Very hearty and filling. I wish it came with a slice of bread so I could scrape the bowl clean.
Vegetable Lasagna
They say: A classic entré of ricotta cheese and vegetables wrapped in a delicate pasta shell and surrounded by an Italian red sauce.
I say: A little different from the current Vegetable Lasagna with Meat Sauce. The sauce wasn't as thick, but the ricotta cheese made up for it.
Note: This product is not part of NutriSystem Nourish, the new Glycemic Index program.
Honey Mustard Chicken w/Vegetables
They say: You'll love this tangy chicken patty served with black beans, carrots, mushrooms and red bell peppers.
I say: The only thing that spared this from becoming a 1-star rating is the sauce and veggies. The chicken was the worse thing. One side was tough. The other? Chewy. I was happy the sauce was just right filled with mushrooms, beans, carrots & red pepper.
BBQ Beef with Potato Wedges
They say: Grill-flavored beef chunks and potatoes seasoned with brown sugar and spices.
I say: Up till I took the last bite, I was about to rate this a 3-star meal. But I bumped it up a notch. It's definitely tasty, lots of BBQ flavor. But I thought it was tooooo thick. It reminds me of a chopped BBQ sandwich common in the south. It reminds me of a chopped bbq sandwich common in the south. It doesn't come with those veggies in the picture. I was actually grateful to dump my veggies in it to loosen it up a bit.
Note: This is a NutriSystem Classics meal. (These favorites fit into your meal plan's caloric recommendation and may be selected as part of your NutriSystem program; however, they are not low-glycemic items.)
Three Cheese Pasta with Chicken
They say: Healthy pasta noodles, chicken chunks and a creamy blend of three cheeses make this pasta a dinner you'll love.

Note: This is a NutriSystem Classics meal. (These favorites fit into your meal plan's caloric recommendation and may be selected as part of your NutriSystem program; however, they are not low-glycemic items.)
Beef Tacos
They say: Dinner's a fiesta with this favorite of beef, green peppers, chili powder and red peppers served with crispy corn tortilla shells.
I say: I kept expecting to find beans in this. Would have been nice. I was surprised to see how nicely the freeze dried sauce turned out, just thick enough. The chunks of freeze dried meat however was a bit chewy.
Recipes using Beef Tacos: Tempting Taco Salad
Orange Beef with Noodles
They say: You'll savor the unique taste of lean strips of beef covered in a tangy citrus sauce, including real orange peel.
I say: It has a unique taste, I'll give it that much. A mild orangey taste but it wasn't tangy. Beef was chewy and sauce a bit too thick.
Chicken Primavera with Pasta
They say: Our primavera includes fresh vegetables, real chicken and healthy noodles in a light creamy sauce, so you can enjoy this Italian classic without the guilt.
I say: So so GOOD! The noodles were firm, the sauce was just like they said, light & creamy. It had zucchini! Albeit dried.
Fillet of Fish with Beurre Blanc and Wild Rice
They say: Indulge in this flaky, white Alaskan Pollock served in a light and flavorful lemon-butter sauce with long-grain wild rice.
I say: Very strong fish smell, not in a bad way, just strong. I was very surprised to find fish as a choice and happy for the variety. Pretty good. The butter sauce was nicely seasoning, but the wild rice could have been firmer.
Macaroni with Cheese and Beef
They say: We blended real cheeses with firm macaroni noodles and beef bites to make this a satisfying, yet healthy, dinner.
I say: Umm mmm mmm...I'm still smacking my lips over this dish. The tasty sauce that was just thick enough when done. Noodles held firm and the beef bits were nicely seasoned. Ummm mmm!
Chicken with Almonds, Rice and Vegetables
They say: With chicken and real almonds in a tangy tamari sauce served over tender, healthy brown rice, it's the perfect tasty meal.
I say: This was really good, reminded me of Chinese Food I love so much. Quite a few chunks of chicken and I was happy to see lots of brown rice and almond slivers. I found the sauce to be more sweet than tangy and very very yummy.
Updated 12/2006 NEW RECIPE! This may just remind you of dinner at your favorite Chinese restaurant. A great-tasting entrée combining tender chicken with brown rice, perfectly cooked vegetables and almonds in a savory, delicious Oriental-style sauce. An entrée that's take-out good and microwave easy.
Beef with Peppercorn Sauce and Vegetables
They say: Flavorful peppercorn sauce makes for a classic dinner combination.
I say: I've been avoiding this like the plague. It was left over from my first order and for some reason I got the impression it wouldn't be good. I think the term "peppercorn sauce" is what scared me off. How wrong I've been. Tasty savory sauce with a couple of string beans and some corn. However, there is much more sauce and way less beef & veggies than shown in the picture.
Zesty Cajun Style Chicken with Wild Rice
They say: Spice up dinner with a tasty combination of sausage, chicken, fresh tomatoes, rice, garlic and chili powder.
I say: Zesty = Spicy. Surprisingly this grew on me pretty quickly. I was about to pan it after the first bite, but after a couple of bites I found myself liking it more and more.
Beef Stroganoff with Noodles
They say: Our combination of whole egg noodles, beef chunks, red bell peppers and mushrooms in a rich stroganoff sauce is now a healthy favorite.
I say: I didn't see much red bell peppers in this but it didn't matter it was still very good. The sauce was rich and creamy and a decent portion of noodles.
Updated 12/2006 NEW NAME! Stroganoff Sauce with Beef and Noodles and NEW RECIPE! Give dinner a little flair! It's the sauce that makes the difference in this classic favorite: rich sour cream and a hint of wine add a depth of flavor. Tender beef combines with mushrooms, carrots and thick egg noodles in the smooth-as-silk sauce for a sophisticated entrée that's as substantial as it is elegant. Who says you have to sacrifice flavor to lose weight?
Mushroom Gravy Over Salisbury Steak and Rice
They say: Rich gravy, brown rice, garlic flavor and a little rice vinegar give this favorite its distinctive flavor.
I say: I like that they used brown rice and the serving of meat is what is health experts agree on, the size of a deck of cards. Nice to see about 1/2 dozen or so of my favorite veggie, the mushroom, mixed in.
Cheese and Spinach Ravioli with Meat Sauce
They say: You'll crave our tender ravioli seasoned with parsley and basil, then stuffed with fresh spinach, ricotta, mozzarella and Romano cheeses.
I say: If pasta, cheese & sauce are ever wrong, I never want to be right. Two fairly large raviolis stuffed with cheese, not swimming in as much sauce as the picture, but just enough and chunky enough.
Sliced Roast Beef and Gravy
They say: A meaty roast beef sandwich with brown gravy makes dinner tasty and satisfying.
I say: A bit chewy and despite all the gravy that's in the package the meat was a tad dry. Gravy was tasty and helped soften up the Whole Wheat Deli Roll.
Chicken Breast Patty
They say: So simple and delicious, this white meat chicken fillet sandwich is one dinner you're sure to enjoy.
I say: For some reason this tasted like tuna to me, could have used a bit more seasoning. Still it's a nice size and filling.
Updated 12/2006 NEW RECIPE! When it comes to versatility and flavor, this is a favorite with big appeal. This thick patty of white meat chicken has a wonderful taste, making it a satisfying dinner choice. Delicious as-is, just heated in the microwave, you can also serve this as a sandwich on a small, whole grain roll, as the package suggests. It's also a great salad topper for your favorite greens. No matter how you fix it, this is an all-American.
Spicy Oriental Style Chicken with Rice
They say: You'll consider this dish a new favorite with its combination of brown and white rice, meaty chicken and fresh vegetables.
I say: Don't let the initial smell when you open is scare you. It smells nice and chickeny when cooked. Despite it's name, I found the Pasta with Beef way more spicy than this. Lotsa chicken chunks and a slightly sweet sauce. Almost like duck sauce. The mushrooms and water chestnuts made it seem very authentic. I admit I scraped the bowl clean!
Seafood Newburg
They say: This classic entré includes shrimp and noodles in a fresh-tasting Newburg sauce.
I say: OMG, this is the first meal I am trying not to scarf down. Their description doesn't do it justice. It's creamy, it's yummy, it's tasty. It's seafood! And next to pasta, I LOVE seafood. I'm so happy I tried it before the reorder shipped and was able to drop some so-so meat dishes for 2 more. Hey I don't want to be greedy and take 28 days worth of it, I could. Heh. But I won't. Where's a higher rating than 5 stars when you need it? I did lose some of the sauce due to overflow in the microwave. Hmph! I also used soy milk instead of water, not sure if that or the lost sauce made it a bit too thick. Next time, and there will be next time, I'll do 1/2 water & 1/2 soy milk and watch the microwave like a clock.
Pot Roast - Gravy Over Beef, Potatoes and Carrots
They say: Pot roast just like mom used to make with juicy meat, fresh potatoes, carrots and thick gravy.
I say:: Definitely need to add extra veggies to this meal. Preferably peas, carrots & mushrooms. Thick sauce, could be a bit thinner. Although the beef is soft enough to cut with a fork, it's a bit too chewy. I liked the potatoes, I saved those for last.
Rotini with Meatballs and Tomato Sauce
They say: This Italian favorite combines rotini and meatballs with crushed tomatoes, Parmesan cheese and a pinch of white pepper.
I say: Oooohh this has to be my favorite meal to date. Thick zesty sauce, lotsa pasta & just enough meatballs to top it all off. Bellisimo!
BBQ Sauce over Beef, Beans and Rice
They say: With healthy brown rice, beef strips and black beans, you'll enjoy bold flavor and good carbohydrates.
I say: Who says you can't have your cake and B-B-Q. Heh. Tangy and spicy & made with brown rice whooo hoooo!. Strong taste of paprika. A very hearty and stick to your ribs kinda meal. Not nearly as many beef chunks, not strips, as shown in the picture.
Chicken Pasta Parmesan
They say: Real Parmesan cheese, healthy pasta and white meat chicken make this pasta dish simply delish.
I say: I am a sucker for all things pasta, and this hit the spot. Though a bit skimpy on the chicken, I counted about 4-5 cubes, the pasta was firm with enough sauce to sustain the 2 cups of veggies I poured in. Next time I'll add a fat free mozzarella cheese to seal the delectable deal.
Polynesian Style Pork with Rice
They say: This entré gets its distinctive flavor from fresh pineapple, tomatoes, bell peppers and a combination of Parmesan and Romano cheeses.
I say: Yowza! Very tangy. Must be the pineapple. I wasn't able to boil water in the traditional way, I had to use the microwave, so though the water got hot I'm not sure it did the trick. The rice seemed a bit under cooked and too much water made it a bit mushy. But mixed with extra vegetables took care of the excess liquid and overall it was tasty.
Green Pepper Steak with Rice
They say: A hearty dinner of lean steak strips and green bell peppers served with a splash of tamari sauce.
I say: Very thick & heavy sauce. I've read people say they have added a bit of water to thin it out. I've been dumping about 1-2 cups of mixed vegetables to "absorb" some of excess. More like chunks of very chewy cubed beef vs. lean steak strips.
Updated 12/2006 NEW RECIPE! This is hearty, flavorful, all-American fare! Tender beef and green peppers are sautéed together in a deep brown gravy that's perfectly seasoned with onions and a combination of savory spices. Served with brown rice, you have hearty, American-style fare at its absolute best. Just add your appetite!
Flame Broiled Beef Patty
They say: There's no depriving yourself with this great-tasting hamburger.
I say: My first freeze dried styled meal. Bleeech! While it smells flame broiled, it takes many many many chews to taste the burger. I put it down on my plate and the burger sorta crumbled. To be fair, I was supposed to put the pouch in a bowl of boiling water. I don't have access to it so I zapped in the microwave on a low setting. I put it in the Whole Wheat Roll and wrapped both in a damp paper towel. While that helped soften the bun it did nothing for the "patty". If there is a next time I'll make it like the instructed.
Thin Crust Pizza with Cheese
They say: With skim mozzarella cheese, zesty red sauce and a crisp thin crust, you've got a personal pizza that's sure to satisfy.
I say: Comparing this to my old reliable personal pan pizza I about keeled over when I opened this. The crust? The perimeter is about the size of my hand, including fingers. The sauce was very thick and looked like tomato paste, cheese looked ok. The taste was pretty good. Afterwards, I realized the crust was very pita like. The sauce was tangy. I was going to top it with my a bowl of veggies, but the poor thing was so slender I didn't want to hurt it. Heh.
Updated 12/2006 NEW RECIPE! Eat pizza and still lose weight? It hardly seems possible, but it's true. Just spread the rich, flavorful tomato sauce over the crust, sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and bake until the cheese melts and the crust turns golden-brown. Go wild if you want: add some sprinkles of Parmesan cheese, sautéed peppers, onions or a few sliced olives. It's like a new meal every time!
Teriyaki Sauce and Beef with Rice
They say: Water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, wild rice, ginger and red bell peppers make this beef teriyaki dish a healthy, delicious dinner choice.
I say: Wish they used brown rice with this, again the sauce is pretty thick so must. Stir. Well. The seasonings however, could have been sharper.
Vegetable Lasagna with Meat Sauce
They say: We think we made it just like grandma's thick noodles, ricotta cheese and a homestyle tomato sauce.
I say: OMG I totally wolfed this down, it was so delicious. I added 2 cups of mixed veggies in it and went to town. The pasta was nice and firm, the sauce was well seasoned and I didn't miss meat one single bit.
Homestyle Chicken Noodles with Gravy
They say: Enriched wheat flour makes this healthy, homestyle choice one you'll want to enjoy over and over.
I say: Very soupyish not very gravyish. It felt like I was having Campbell's chicken noodle soup. Put it like this, when I was done, I drank the rest of the gravy. 'nuff said.
Beef and Mushroom Gravy with Rice
They say: Savor this hearty dinner of beef strips, brown rice and onions served with a delicious mushroom sauce.
I say: This was my first dinner. I was bracing myself for the worst what a relief I ended up pleasantly surprised. While the sauce was a bit thick and heavy, I really liked that they used brown rice.
